The most important problem facing the United States today is immigration, according to a new Gallup survey.
The latest data are based on an April 1-22 survey, as new reports surface about the federal government’s involvement in facilitating America’s border and immigration crisis.
Republicans are more likely than Democrats and independents to declare immigration the nation’s top issue. Nearly half (48 percent) of Republicans mention immigration as the most pressing issue — the survey question was open-ended — compared with eight percent of Democrats and 25 percent of independents.
“The current 40-percentage-point gap in Republicans’ and Democrats’ mentions of immigration is among the largest party differences on record for this measure,” Gallup noted.
Immigration has now been cited as America’s number one problem for the third month in a row, while also standing alone as the “most politically polarizing issue in the past 25 years,” according to Gallup.
The survey comes just as internal data from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reveals the top 45 cities that foreign nationals are being flown to through the Biden administration’s mass parole program.
At least 386,000 migrants have been flown into the U.S. through a program authorized by President Joe Biden, which allows foreigners to be flown into the U.S. from other countries — primarily Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Colombia.
Through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection app CBP One, migrants can request advance travel authorizations and take commercial flights directly into U.S. airports, where U.S. Customs officers parole them into the country.
Until this week, details on migrant flight destinations were kept in secret, a move that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently criticized.
“It is a secret because … they don’t tell us anytime somebody comes in,” DeSantis stated during a press conference. “They don’t give us any information on it. They are not coordinating with state government at all. If they throw six people on a commercial flight coming from a foreign country, there’s no acknowledgement at all to state or local authorities. That’s just a fact.”
“President Joe Biden’s approval rating for his handling of immigration has been persistently poor,” Gallup added. “With the presidential election about six months away and immigration top of mind, the issue remains a significant vulnerability for Biden as he seeks reelection.”
